STORYLINE:
A few dozen protesters gathered outside the residence of the Israeli prime minister in Jerusalem on Monday to mark the passing of one and a half years since Palestinian militants launched their unprecedented assault on southern Israel.
The protesters read out the names of hostages still being held in Gaza and called for a deal securing their release.
The demonstration came ahead of a meeting between Benjamin Netanyahu and US President Trump in Washington DC scheduled to take placelater in the day.
Israel last month shattered the ceasefire agreement with Hamas with a surprise bombardment in the Gaza Strip after trying to pressure the militants to accept proposed new terms for the ceasefire, a move supported by the White House.
Hundreds of Palestinians have since been killed.
Israel has pledged to escalate the war in Gaza until Hamas returns the remaining hostages seized in the Oct. 7, 2023, attack that sparked the war, disarms and leaves the territory.
Israel has also has halted all supplies of food, fuel and humanitarian aid into Gaza.
