Here you’ve got a "Stryker" vehicle where our soldiers are helping provide detection and monitoring here on the border and you can just see the border wall just about a hundred meters away from here and this is one of the tasks that we’re helping the border patrol in order to get more agents out in the field to perform their law enforcement role. STORYLINE:
An eight-wheeled armored vehicle sticks out in the barren desert along the Arizona-Mexico border. The vehicle is part of a mobile surveillance system operated by the U.S. Army in support of the U.S. Border Patrol.
Army Maj. Gen. Scott Naumann spoke on the role the vehicle and the troops using it are playing.
“Our mission at Joint Task Force Southern Border is to help the Border Patrol control this border in order to protect the territorial integrity of the United States. This is the pointy end of that spear. Here you’ve got a Stryker vehicle where our soldiers are helping provide detection and monitoring here on the border,” he said.
Border security has been a major talking point for U.S. President Donald Trump, whose administration has sent thousands of active duty troops to the U.S.-Mexico border.
