It’s going to impact a lot of everyday American to pay more, not just for electronics and computer, laptops and technology, but it’s also affecting their daily needs like food.”

"My thought on this new recent tariff that President Trump imposed… it’s going to hurt the consumer really bad. Because me, I charge flat fee for my service, but the customer has to pay the cost for the part. And because the tariff increase, of course, the cost of the part is going to be increasing. So the customer has to pay more to get their computer or cell phone fixed because the cost of the part is increasing."

"Yes, we can create more jobs in America. But how many jobs you can create compared to how many people are going to pay more to get what they need, to get their computer or cell phone fixed, to get a new computer, to get a new cell phone? They got to pay extra. So I don’t think that’s a good idea in my opinion, but I don’t know what’s going to happen in the future. I hope for the best. But for now, it doesn’t look good and it’s hurting the customer."

STORYLINE:
Alongside a 10% baseline tax on imports, President Donald Trump announced reciprocal tariffs on dozens of countries with the goal of bolstering American manufacturing.
Daniel Fernando owns and operates Technesia, a one-man band computer and phone repair service based in Philadelphia. The majority of the electronic components he works with come from overseas.
“I try to get my part from US reseller and retailer,” said Fernando. “But they also get it from China and Taiwan.”
Imports from the two manufacturing hubs will be hit with 34% and 32% tax on imports, respectively. The tariffs will likely increase the cost of replacement parts and supplies, said Fernando.
Current investments in U.S.-based semiconductor production are not enough to bridge the massive manufacturing delta from overseas factories, said Fernando.
