STORYLINE:
Tens of thousands of supporters of South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol gathered in central Seoul on Saturday as protests grow while the country’s Constitutional Court weighs whether to dismiss him.
Main streets through central Seoul were filled with protesters for and against Yoon who were waving flags and holding political placards.
25-year-old college student Kim Min believes Yoon’s impeachment should be dismissed.
"Through the martial law, people were awakened," she said at a rally.
On Monday, the country’s Constitutional Court reinstated Prime Minister Han Duck-soo as acting leader, overturning his impeachment by opposition lawmakers three months ago.
The court’s ruling marks just one front in the deepening turmoil as it simultaneously weighs the far more consequential case of conservative President Yoon Suk Yeol, whose December impeachment over his brief but stunning martial law decree has left the country’s leadership in limbo for months.
